“Social movements will lead the transformations together with the Colombian government.”
The Colombian philosopher and political scientist, Lilia Solano RamírezThe newly appointed Vice Minister of Social Dialogue, Equality and Human Rights, analyzed for CLACSO.tv the reality of her country, a few months after the assumption of the government of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez.
“We have had 200 years of bad government in Colombia, and the great challenge for the new government is how it will recover from all this time in which social issues were sidelined, all of which has led to a tremendous crisis in the country,” he said, before stating: “It is the social movements that will take the lead, along with the government, for the transformations.”
During her tenure as Director of the Justice and Life Project, Lilia Solano Ramírez played a key role in consolidating Colombian social movements, particularly through mechanisms for denouncing human rights violations. This work has earned her international recognition for her commitment to social transformation in her country. Her efforts have been instrumental in integrating Colombia into the framework of the World Social Forum and in coordinating community organizations in Ciudad Bolívar and Cazucá. She has also undertaken legal work defending the land rights of the most disadvantaged, as well as consistently denouncing the abuses committed by paramilitary groups operating in urban areas.
