Call for international solidarity in the face of military aggression in the Caribbean

The Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) expresses its deep concern regarding the military actions of the United States government in Caribbean waters, which have the clear intention of taking a geopolitical position to control the strategic resources of the region in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The deployment of military weaponry, which has mobilized eight warships, a nuclear submarine, and thousands of missiles, and the threats that call for and incite war by authorities of the Trump administration constitute a threat to the security of the Caribbean region and all of Latin America, a violation of sovereignty, and an act of aggression by the U.S. government against the peoples of the region.

Under the dehumanizing pretext of portraying Venezuela as a narco-terrorist state to the international community, the aim is to transform the Caribbean, a historically peaceful zone, into a lawless zone, a new territory of war, destruction, genocide, and imperialist plunder, where the impunity of ongoing attacks and extrajudicial executions, which violate the most basic principles of international law and the sovereignty of peoples, will ultimately turn the region into a lawless zone.

This unilateral aggression against the sovereignty of a zone of peace, the Caribbean and Latin America (declared as such by CELAC in 2014), whose balance is a guarantee of world peace, constitutes a new stage in the strategy of advancing and attacking the democratic processes and self-determination of our peoples, which has included lawfare (as seen in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru), criminal blockades (against Cuba and Venezuela), cognitive wars (which seek to dominate the perception and will of the peoples), coups d'état throughout the continent and territorial threats that violate historical treaties (such as the Panama Canal Treaty).

There is no doubt that the stage is being set for a military invasion that will not respect borders, but rather, from the Caribbean to Ushuaia—where the installation of US military bases is being prepared—will seek to take over our territories. zero ground for the deployment of their business and neocolonial death projects.
