Our region, despite a persistent history of generating and perpetuating inequalities that in turn create dynamics of poverty and destitution, and despite acknowledging that various actors have fought and continue to fight against them, has yet to demonstrate fundamental solutions to these phenomena. Thus, the assertion that we are the most unequal subcontinent in the world continues to be repeated, a statement with a significant effect of normalization. It was in this spirit that CLACSO launched the research grant program “Poverty and Multidimensional Inequalities: Towards New Social Pacts?”, seeking to promote a disruptive line of inquiry within the framework of existing and accumulated academic knowledge. This book is the result of that program. All the texts gathered here address the multidimensional and intersectional nature of inequalities. They not only characterize their structural causes but also delve into the complex web of cultural and subjective aspects that shape everyday life. Here, we find individuals in their capacity for agency and resistance to confront and counteract the experiences of inequality they face daily.
