The starting point for this book is the "Hugo Zemelman Prize, Epistemology and Politics, Ten Years After His Death," an initiative of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) based on a proposal from the CLACSO centers in Mexico. The purpose of the call for submissions was to honor the legacy of methodological and epistemic work that the sociologist built throughout his itinerant career across Latin America and the Caribbean, to stimulate the production of critical historical and historicizing thought, and to promote the use or appropriation of the approaches he suggested. Taken together, the texts evoke some aspects of Zemelman's legacy, which is closely linked to his lived experiences, the way in which he lived them, immersed in the historical reality he encountered, his circumstances, and therefore his own political era, which he was able to congruently express. The essays gathered here contribute to questioning the limitations of dominant paradigms, knowing that from the rescue of Zemelman's work one can delve into the current challenges of knowledge in the region.
