This volume presents the research from the call for proposals "Care in Rural Contexts in Latin America and the Caribbean," promoted by CLACSO and UN Women. The project seeks to broaden analytical frameworks and enrich public policies by recognizing the profoundly heterogeneous rural realities in the region. Care is a fertile field in Latin America and the Caribbean, and this work proposes a situated and decolonial reflection on its diverse forms, content, and meanings.
Through case studies in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Chile, the chapters address the complexities of caregiving territories, family and collective practices, the relationship between care, gender, and ethnicity in Afro-Bolivian communities, and the challenges of transnational mobility in rural areas. They explore the multiple dimensions of care, examine its implications for the well-being of populations, and highlight inequalities and resistance, promoting social dialogue for the design of territorially sensitive public policies.
