Lawfare. War by other means
In this essay, Silvina María Romano It proposes that the phenomenon known as “lawfare,” as a component of capital’s war machine, operates against politics as a possibility for imagining another world in the face of neoliberal capitalism. Lawfare, defined as “war waged through legal means” or as the “use of law as a weapon,” is a multidimensional phenomenon with a profound political, economic, and geopolitical impact in Latin America and the Caribbean in recent decades. Associated with the judicialization of politics and its public exposure through the media, as well as with processes of delegitimizing or criminalizing certain political sectors, it has been systematically used in our region to neutralize those sectors.
CLACSO and the National University of Quilmes join forces in this collection of books on the challenges of communication, politics and rights in the digital age, in a present that makes critical questioning of the ethical role of the media and the digital education of a citizenry committed to the responsible use of new technologies indispensable.
