Public universities continue to resist

 Public universities continue to resist

-Despite the veto that maintains salaries that place 80% of teaching and non-teaching workers below the poverty line.

-Even though the funds allocated for operations are not sufficient to cover infrastructure costs.

-Despite the halt in the works that would allow improvements in the activities at all universities.

-Despite the danger involved in not continuing with university scholarships.

-Despite the lack of investment in research, science and technology.

-Despite the speeches that attempt to discredit the academic quality and administrative functioning of universities.

-Despite attempts to discredit research in social sciences, humanities and arts.

-Despite the discursive violence and fake news from political leaders and followers who demonstrate an absolute lack of understanding of university reality.

-Despite the veto supported by members of parliament that allows the defunding of public universities to proceed.

-Despite the veto, we resisted because public universities represent a real possibility for millions of young people to choose a professional future regardless of their social origin.

-Despite all this, from the public universities we continue to resist with the same convictions, because universities have been and will be a source of pride for the country and a right for everyone.

-Because the validation of the presidential veto by Congress implies turning its back on the popular will that was massively expressed on April 23 and October 2, when millions of Argentinians took to the streets throughout the country to defend our public, free and quality university system.

Therefore, from the CLACSO Member Centers of Argentina, we repudiate the decision of the deputies who, with their vote, favored the presidential veto that defunds public universities, and we ask society as a whole to continue supporting the struggle for the defense of a public, free, quality, and diverse university for all.
