Popular women sustain life
The Vice Ministry of Women of Colombia, led by the Vice Minister Tamara Ospina and attached to the Ministry of Equality and Equity of the Government of President Gustavo Petro, together with the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, with the presence of its executive director, Pablo Vommaro, announced the launch of the “Policarpas School: Training process for grassroots women of change”, a strategic commitment to feminist political training aimed at strengthening the leadership of popular women within the framework of the project of democratic transformation, social justice and total peace promoted by the Government of Change.
Under the slogan "People's women sustain life, territories and also collective struggles", two free training courses were launched:
• Diploma in Guaranteeing Women's Rights with an emphasis on a life free from violence and sexual and reproductive rights. Coordination: Ana Silvia Monzón (Guatemala) and Briseida Barrantes (Panama).
• Diploma in Strengthening Women's Organizations with an Emphasis on Project Formulation and Popular Communication. Coordination: Luz Dary Ruiz Botero (Colombia) and Monica Londoño Martínez (Colombia).
The School will develop training programs for women social and community leaders, women's organizations, and public officials, including members of the security forces. The goal is to strengthen social leadership and transform institutional capacities to prevent, address, and eradicate gender-based violence.
The Policarpas School aims not only to transmit content, but also to build concrete political tools for the safe and decisive exercise of women's leadership in their territories, strengthen their influence in decision-making spaces, contribute to peacebuilding, and promote the defense of life and territories. It is a transformative public policy of training, designed to generate capacities that endure beyond the training process and translate into organization, participation, and real impact.
The creation of the Policarpas School expresses a concrete political decision to strengthen the organizational, technical, and advocacy capacities of women in all their diversity, by bringing together the State, critical academia, and social movements. The alliance between the Vice Ministry and CLACSO It is not limited to a technical cooperation agreement, but constitutes an inter-institutional effort to democratize knowledge, broaden participation and consolidate a substantive equality agenda in Colombia.
