Subnational democracies
The three volumes of “Subnational democracies: Perspectives from Mexico”, coordinated by René Torres-Ruiz, co-published by CLACSO and the Ibero-American University of Mexico, bring together a set of exhaustive investigations on the democratization processes that have taken place in the different states of the United Mexican States, offering a broad and detailed view that until now had been scarcely addressed.
This work corrects the prevailing bias in political studies, which focus almost exclusively on the national, presidential, and federal perspectives, often taking Mexico City as their point of reference. In contrast, this work highlights regional dynamics and subnational particularities, showing how each federal entity experiences its own unique transformations, resistances, and continuities.
The result is a plural mosaic that, by observing local specificities, allows at the same time to draw a renewed vision of the national political landscape.
