Social sciences in the spotlight: a threat to democracies?

From August 4 to 7, the University City of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, in Tegucigalpa, hosted the XIX Central American Congress of Sociology (ACAS 2025) “Sociology in Central America Facing Social Inequalities, Climate Change, and Territorial Disputes.” Interviews with:
-Luis Manuel Martínez Estrada, from the Directorate of Scientific Research of the National Autonomous University of Honduras and coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group “Borders, regionalization and globalization”
-Carmen Camacho, President of the College of Sociology Professionals of Costa Rica
-Ricardo Matamoros, Director of Scientific Research at UNAH. This dialogue addresses the main challenges and opportunities to strengthen research in the region and its connection to the needs of society.
-Participation of Alejandro Gambina, Director of Training and Postgraduate Network of CLACSO
The program for Wednesday, September 24th covers two of the main themes of the Platforms for Social Dialogue which CLACSO is promoting for the coming years: “Democracy, human rights and peace” and “Inequalities and poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean”
