The university as a right. Perspectives from the South
November 5th and 6th. National University of Quilmes
On the 70th anniversary of the elimination of tuition fees for university studies in Argentina, and against a backdrop of the global advance of the neoliberal project of commodifying all spheres of life—whose consequences are also evident in the university setting—CONADU, the National Federation of University Teachers, is convening the First International Congress “The University as a Right: Perspectives from the South.” This event will provide a forum for debate and political positioning regarding the status of education and knowledge as a personal and collective human right, as a common good, and as a strategic element for the exercise of sovereignty.
The Congress includes leading figures in the field of study and debate on university issues, as well as representatives of higher education unions from different regions of the world. Among others, we can mention Adriana Puiggrós, Ángelo Gavrielatos (Education International), Karina Batthyánny (Executive Secretary of CLACSO), Carlos De Feo, Axel Didriksson (Mexico), René Ramírez (Ecuador), Marco Antonio Rodrigues Dias (Brazil), Carmen Caamaño (Costa Rica), Combertty Rodríguez (IEAL), Eduardo Rinesi, Gabriela Diker, Sandra Torlucci, Freddy Álvarez (Ecuador), Pablo Gentili, Graciela Morgade, Sandra Carli, Yamile Socolovsky, Fernanda Saforcada, Lucía Trotta, Daniela Atairo and representatives of PROIFES (Brazil), FAPROUASD (Dominican Republic), ASPU (Colombia), FAUECH (Chile), CAUT (Canada), GEW (Germany) and PPU (Palestine).
The Congress will also host an exchange between university faculty unions from Germany (GEW), Argentina (CONADU), Brazil (PROIFES), Canada (CAUT), Chile (FAUECH), Colombia (ASPU), Palestine (PPU), and the Dominican Republic (FAPROUASD). National University of Quilmes (Roque Sáenz Peña 352, Bernal)
