CLACSO Working Group on Care and Gender
At the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences of CLACSO, held from June 7 to 10, 2022, at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Forum on the Care Society took place. This forum was proposed by the CLACSO Executive Secretariat and organized by the CLACSO Working Group on Care and Gender, with support from ECLAC, UNRISD, the National Institute for Women (Mexico), UN Women, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, FESminismos, and OXFAM. The Forum aimed to exchange perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the region in moving towards a care society, a society where care is the central organizing principle of social organization. Through various roundtables, which addressed conceptual dimensions, concrete experiences in care policies, critical perspectives on public policies, methodological debates on measuring care, care in migration contexts, aging and care, among other topics, a space was created for the exchange of knowledge and evidence on the latest research. This contributed to public discussion and strengthened emerging public care policies, as well as social movements of women, care workers, and society in general. This book compiles some of the main papers presented at these roundtables.
