Politics as a dispute of hopes

Politics as a dispute of hopes

In this essay, Álvaro García Linera reviews the events since the 2019 coup that ended Evo Morales's presidency and warns Latin American leftists to heed some lessons learned, such as the existence of a right wing that is not the same as it was at the beginning of the 21st century. Instead, he points to a racialized and authoritarian far right, democratic in rhetoric but determined to react violently if its privileges are threatened. This book is a historic call, especially to the continent's youth, to reclaim the value of politics as a praxis that articulates collective hopes, which are rooted in the aspirations for justice, equality, and social advancement of the most marginalized.
