Migration has been an integral part of civilizations and societies throughout history. For centuries, since the occupation of the continents, populations have sought places with hospitable nature, water, animals, and shelter. Over time, with the shift to settled life, different human groups established themselves in diverse locations and evolved from the simplest to the most complex forms of society. Human settlement and the well-being of societies are directly linked to the concept of human mobility, and this is what led to the formation of urban societies and states in their various forms of organization.
