Latin American and Caribbean integration 200 years after the Amphictyonic Congress (1826-2026)
CLACSO and its Member Centers of Panama call for essay submissions “Latin American and Caribbean integration 200 years after the Amphictyonic Congress (1826-2026)” To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama, convened by Simón Bolívar in 1826 as the most ambitious effort to federate the newly independent nations of Latin America and the Caribbean, the event seeks to gather critical reflections on the genealogy of regional integration processes, the enduring relevance of Bolivarian ideals, and the future prospects of the Greater Homeland in the face of the challenges of the 21st century.
The proposal includes six thematic areas dedicated to the genealogy of Latin American and Caribbean integration, the enduring relevance of Bolivarian ideals, integration processes as a tool for sovereignty and social justice, the cultural and social dimensions of regional unity, the future horizons of integration in a contemporary context, and historical and current debates on regional dependence and autonomy. Participants are also invited to explore shared genealogies and strategic divergences that enrich the Latin American and Caribbean dialogue.
The call is aimed at researchers, activists, teachers, public policy decision-makers, as well as students and young people interested in contributing to this historical rescue from a plural and transformative perspective.
Original and unpublished essays by individuals or groups (up to 3 authors) will be accepted, written in Spanish or Portuguese, with an approximate length of between 12.000 and 15.000 words and adhering to CLACSO's editorial guidelines. The selected works will be included in an open-access digital book.
