“Foreign interference and colonialism in Haiti are enormous.”
The Haitian researcher and professor, Tania Pierre-Charles, specialist in issues related to access to health, social participation of women, sexual and reproductive health and health policies, member of the Working Group on International Health and Health Sovereignty and of the Quebec network of feminist studies, is part of the Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences for the Caribbean Region since the XXVII General Assembly in June in Mexico City.
During his visit to Bogotá, Colombia, to participate in the 107th meeting of the CLACSO Steering Committee on November 18 and 19, he held a dialogue for CLACSO.tv with Gustavo LemaThe Council's Director of Communication and Information, reviewing the main conflicts, challenges and struggles of his country, emphasized that "there are international institutions in Haiti that have roles that do not correspond to them, so the interference and colonialism are enormous."
He added that the Caribbean countries “each have their own specificities but also things in common. The challenge is to see how we, as a region, can articulate those common points, but also that focus towards the South, which for us in Haiti is paramount because we have always looked towards the North. So this space that allows the CLACSO Member Centers to establish bridges, to strengthen bridges to the South, I think is a tremendous opportunity.”
