“The strongest cultural heritage we Dominicans have is our Afro heritage.”

Jenny Torres, a Dominican researcher and social activist for human rights, analyzed for CLACSO TV the current situation in her country and in Haiti, nations that share an island in the Caribbean.

Jenny Torres emphasized that “Haiti continues to pay the price every year for having been the first country in the Americas where there was a Black revolution, where there was an Afro revolution, where a group of enslaved people triumphed over a powerful nation. It is a history that should fill us with pride as an island, as a Caribbean, as Latin America, but nevertheless, the trajectory that the Haitian people have suffered has not been like that; it is an invisible history.”
