The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation visited CLACSO
On Tuesday, April 24, 2019, Gerhard Dilger and Patricia Lizarraga, representatives in Argentina of the German Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, visited the headquarters of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences in Buenos Aires, where they had a fruitful meeting with the Executive Secretary of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, and with the Directors, Pablo Vommaro and Nicolás Arata.
The meeting made progress in finding ways to coordinate and enhance the work of both institutions on issues such as democracy, human rights, and feminism, through publications, the organization of seminars, training courses, and specific working groups.
“We are both internationalist networks with a presence in many countries, with shared themes and approaches. There is a large field and many ideas to develop together,” Gerhard Dilger pointed out.
Coincidentally, Karina Batthyány highlighted: “We share frames of reference, ways of seeing problems and of positioning ourselves in the face of this advance that the right, the far right and anti-democratic movements are having in the region and in the world.”
The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is a political education institution with offices in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Founded in 1990 in Berlin, its mission statement proposes "to contribute to building a more democratic and egalitarian society by promoting research, reflection, and debate on alternatives to capitalism."
The regional office for Brazil and the Southern Cone has been operating in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay since 2003. It has two units, one in São Paulo and the other in Buenos Aires.
