"Education, a right for everyone throughout their lives"
With the aim of uniting wills and consciences to update the tasks in defense of public education, from June 5 to 9 the “Second World Congress against educational neoliberalism” is being held at the University of Panama, with the participation of the Executive Director of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, and unions, associations, social activists, academics and critical pedagogues from around the world.
“We cannot consider an alternative if we do not place interdependence, solidarity, democracy, and responsibility at the center. It is from this foundation that we must also build new elements for this discussion of education as a right for everyone throughout their lives,” said Karina Batthyány in her opening address at the Congress.
Also, on Monday, June 5, at the invitation of the Women's Institute of the University of Panama, the Executive Director of CLACSO gave a lecture on "Care and Gender Policies." "Care constitutes the critical crux of inequality and the difficulty in building social well-being. The State has the obligation to guarantee the right to care and be cared for in its material, economic, and affective-relational dimensions," she summarized in her presentation.
Among other activities, he also held a meeting with the CLACSO Member Centers in Panama where actions taken with a projection towards the second half of 2023 and 2024 were evaluated; in addition, she was interviewed by the University of Panama TV for the Sociological Perspective segment, of the Department of Sociology.

Second World Congress against neoliberalism in education
In 2020, within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, neoliberalism launched an unprecedented offensive against public education, employing new forms and models of educational privatization, commodification, school stratification, and exclusion, all under the guise of digital transformation. In this context, labor unions, professional associations, academic organizations, and other voices in education organized a virtual event. First World Congress against educational neoliberalismwhich had 11.800 registered participants. One of the conclusions of the 2020 meeting was to organize a new in-person edition of this global event. Consequently, we are organizing, in a self-managed way, the Second World Congress against neoliberalism in educationUnder the thematic axis of “Pedagogical Alternatives, Union Autonomy, and Union Resistance,” this initiative is conceived as a space to envision and build the viability of the noblest pedagogical aspirations of teachers, students, and families. Therefore, the agenda begins with the present as the starting point for envisioning a future of social justice.
