Political ecology according to Enrique Leff
On September 26th in Buenos Aires, Mexican economist Enrique Leff presented his latest book, "The Fire of Life: Heidegger on the Environmental Question," published by Siglo XXI. This is the latest in a series of his writings that systematically address the scientific and philosophical underpinnings of environmental rationality and its particular connection to the history of Western metaphysics, which, according to Heidegger, is trapped in a history of the forgetting of Being, but which, according to the perspective of this study, has overlooked the question of the conditions of Life.
Interviewed by Karina Bidaseca for CLACSO TV, Enrique Leff, a member of the Institute of Social Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), stated that “Political ecology today is the topic, the way to circumscribe, from the response of critical social thought, the question of the ecological crisis, the environmental crisis.”
Enrique Leff has written 25 books and 180 articles on political ecology, environmental sociology, environmental economics, environmental epistemology, and environmental education.
