The World People's Summit

 The World People's Summit

The World People's Summit “Co-constructing a new eco-social world: Leaving no one behind”, offers spaces for global engagement and conversation among cultures, diverse lived experiences, professional groups and perspectives.

It will be streamed interactively 24 hours a day from June 29 to July 2, 2022, so people can participate from all time zones. All live and video contributions include a chat section for interacting with the presenters. This process will provide opportunities to co-create a new eco-social world and generate security, protection, and sustainability for this and future generations.

In that framework, the Wednesday, June 29, the Director General of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, will speak on “Care and the centrality of life“The focus is on the fact that academic debates on care date back to the 70s in Anglo-Saxon countries, driven by feminist approaches in the social sciences. The concept of “care” emerged to represent reproductive labor, also encompassing the more affective and relational aspects of these activities. It arose to demonstrate the transversality of practices and representations defined as feminine and to show that the material and the immaterial, the public and the private, and the physical and the emotional go hand in hand and are significantly intertwined.”

The World People's Summit offers spaces for individuals and group representatives to advance their ideas and provides a platform for engagement among diverse cultures, lived experiences, professional groups, and perspectives. All contributions will shape the People's Charter for a New Ecosocial World, which will be submitted to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in July 2022 and will create a catalyst for greater global action.

Participants are then invited to contribute to the conversation by sharing their professional or cultural practices, academic experiences, or indigenous knowledge.

The summit was initiated by UNRISD and IFSW. One organization is part of the United Nations, and the other is an international association of social professionals with links to communities worldwide. It comes as a response to the need for change as the world moves forward and emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many partners have joined the summit – including CLACSO—, by identifying it as a critical space to promote ideas and provide a platform for engagement between different cultures, lived experiences, professional groups and perspectives.

This global people's summit will act as a catalyst for developing new local and global values, policies, and practices for our common future.
