The construction of care policies: a sociological perspective from feminist academia. A conversation with Rosario Aguirre

Rosario Aguirre is a Uruguayan sociologist who graduated in 1974 from the first graduating class of the Sociology program at the University of the Republic (UdelaR). During the civic-military dictatorship, she went into exile and pursued postgraduate studies in Ecuador and France. Upon her return to Uruguay, she founded the Gender Relations Area within the Sociology Department at UdelaR. She is currently an emeritus researcher and evaluator for the National System of Researchers of Uruguay. She was awarded the 2022 Latin American and Caribbean Social Sciences Prize, the highest distinction granted by CLACSO.

Valentina Perrotta holds a PhD in Sociology from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Republic (UdelaR), Uruguay. She is a professor and researcher with the Gender Sociology Group in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences (UdelaR, Uruguay). She is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Uruguay. Currently, she is co-coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group on “Care and Gender.”
