Miriam Elizalde understands that there is “an enormous crisis of legitimacy stemming from the entire debacle of what has happened in all Latin American countries with neoliberalism, the suffering that the increase in inequality has meant for these countries, and the desperation of the people that is leading to these scenarios.” She also analyzed that Latin America is one of the most dependent regions in the world “in terms of, for example, data traffic.” “We cannot speak of sovereignty in any of our countries, even with the best public policies, when 95 percent of your data passes through the United States, primarily through the Network Access Point (NAP) of the Americas.”
