To the Directors of Member Centers and the entire CLACSO Community
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to raise significant questions about the future, with new variants of the virus and surges in infections, while we await the results of a vaccination program that is still far from being widespread and equitable. As we have seen throughout much of 2020, this new global reality severely limits travel.
After analyzing all the elements currently available to us, the CLACSO Steering Committee and the Executive Secretariat have decided to postpone the assemblies and the conference until the first half of 2022.
The decision, after much debate and careful consideration, seeks to guarantee the health of all participants and prioritize in-person interaction, broad participation, and democracy. Indeed, we believe that democracy and participation are limited by virtual formats due to the difficulties exhibitors and the general public often face in connecting via the internet.
The decision was not easy, but we were guided by prioritizing the safety of the participants and the commitment to a face-to-face meeting that is broad, participatory, open, and democratic, as our 54-year history of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences indicates.
We will keep you informed of the new date we want to set in the first half of 2022. And rest assured that we will not stop working both for the Ordinary Assembly and the Extraordinary Assembly for the Reform of the Statutes of CLACSO, as well as for the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences “Networks of Inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
And, as always, we invite you to be active participants in the many activities, conferences, courses and publications promoted by CLACSO, pandemic or no pandemic.
