 Julian Assange arrested in London

On Thursday, April 11, images of Julian Assange being forcibly removed by police from inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where the WikiLeaks founder had sought asylum in 2012, went viral around the world.

CLACSO condemns the arbitrary measure adopted by the government of Lenin Moreno to remove Assange's diplomatic immunity and open the doors to the British Crown's police forces, in flagrant violation of international asylum conventions.

Now, Julian Assange is in danger of being deported to the United States, where he is being persecuted for revealing information that could incriminate that country for serious human rights violations committed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo.

Furthermore, this act constitutes an attack on freedom of information and a threat to all of us who fight to know and denounce the manipulations of the powers and corporations that harm the freedoms, rights and integrity of people.
