Jujuy: the laboratory of repression
In this book, a co-edition of CLACSO with the University of Konstanz, Eli Gómez Alcorta y Valeria Vegh Weis They offer a stark and rigorous X-ray of the repressive network built in the province of Jujuy, in the north of the Argentine Republic, during the administrations of Gerardo Morales as governor, and warn about its expansion as a national model.
Through the concept of neutralizing punitivism, the book shows how the judiciary, security forces, and the media work together to silence dissent, criminalize protest, and dismantle grassroots organizations. The paradigmatic case of Milagro Sala allows us to understand the scope of these practices, but other voices—such as those of Nahuel Morandini and Roque Villegas—are also included, exposing the systematic nature of the repressive mechanism.
Using clear language and a solid theoretical foundation, the authors challenge the notions of justice, legality, and democracy. This book is simultaneously a denunciation, an analytical tool, and an urgent call to sustain resistance against the advance of punitive authoritarianism.
