From FOLEC-CLACSO, we extend an invitation to the webinar entitled "Academic Freedom: Risks and Threats", organized within the framework of the launch of the call for the thematic dossier of volume 36, number 2 (2024) of the journal Higher Education and Society (ESS). This event, to be held on September 12, 2024, will bring together leading experts to reflect on one of the fundamental pillars of higher education: academic freedom. Among the specialists is Judith Naidorf, the coordinator of FOLEC.

The webinar will address the threats and risks facing academic freedom in the current contextThe event, marked by growing political, social, and cultural tensions affecting academic institutions, will address topics such as bureaucratic pressures, the commodification of knowledge, the influence of political power, and the challenges posed by cancel culture.

This forum is aimed at university and academic staff interested in analyzing and debating the state of academic freedom and its implications for higher education. The event will feature the participation of Adrian Acosta (University of Guadalajara), Judith Naidorf (University of Buenos Aires), Valentina Canese (National University of Asunción) and Pablo Garcíaa (National University of Tres de Febrero), under the moderation of Alma Maldonado (CINVESTAV), and will be presented by Carlos Iván Moreno (University of Guadalajara).
