The Institute of Research in Humanities and Social Sciences is a dual-affiliation entity, UNLP-CONICET, created in August 2009 and, since June 2010, is also an Associate Member Center of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, CLACSO.
Research is one of the distinctive activities of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of the UNLP and has progressively achieved greater institutionalization through the formation of specific units - institutes, centers, areas and laboratories.
The IdIHCS was created with the aim of integrating and enhancing these units and their human resources; the number of researchers increased by more than 170% in its eleven years of existence, while the number of scholarship recipients rose by 120%.
It is the workplace of 164 Projects (funded by UNLP, CONICET and the I+D+i Agency) developed by 253 researchers (CONICET – UNLP – CICPBA) 178 scholarship recipients (CONICET – UNLP – CICPBA) 10 CPA Professionals – CONICET and 2 administrative agents (UNLP – CONICET).
The Institute publishes 10 journals indexed in national and international databases, and its various stakeholders participate in academic and scientific networks such as the MeciLA Center – Maria Sibylla Merian, the International Center for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences – funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the INCASI Network (International Network for Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities), in addition to 6 Interinstitutional Cooperation Programs with organizations in America and Europe.
It is currently made up of 19 research units dedicated to the study of classic humanities disciplines such as history, literature, linguistics, philosophy, education and geography, along with specific approaches to social sciences such as methodology, sociology, economics, or gender, among others.
