Institute of Educational Sciences – Chile
Alberto Galaz Ruiz, Director
The Institute of Educational Sciences (ICED) is heir to a long-standing concern of the Austral University of Chile for education, a concern expressed particularly with the founding of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education (1957). However, the aspiration to have a unit that would embrace and articulate the diversity of disciplinary and epistemic approaches to the educational phenomenon bore fruit in February 2016.
Since its creation, a stage of consolidation and projection has begun, a stage that specifically aims to capture our critical reading on the articulation of the current demands of the national, institutional and local educational context, but also the actions that we consider appropriate and coherent to ensure what is our first objective; “the consolidation of a transdisciplinary field of research and development, from the basis of the theoretical and methodological integration of education to advance towards the development of impactful, contingent and sustainable teaching, linking, research and management practices, respectful of the environment, ages, identities and the diverse ways of knowing.
In essence, ICED has identified the following as ongoing challenges:
- To welcome knowledge, experiences and proposals from communities in order to provide a relevant response to the growing and urgent needs of the local and national environment.
- Opening up interdisciplinary practice to new forms of understanding, knowledge, and impact on education and pedagogy.
- To consolidate an effective vocation and practice of collaboration for transdisciplinary research.
- To position oneself proactively and effectively in institutional, regional, and national educational policy decision-making areas.
