Childhoods and youth

CLACSO Working Group on Childhood and Youth It seeks to reflect on, investigate, influence and make visible the main problems and potential of children and youth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The overall purpose of the GT is to contribute critical and situated knowledge about childhood and youth within the framework of new social processes that reposition Latin America and the Caribbean in dialogue with global agendas.

In this sense, the GT assumes critical positions rooted in the South, which contribute to promoting decolonial, counter-hegemonic practices of mobilization and reduction of inequalities; it is oriented towards processes situated in the Latin American and Caribbean context, which must be in dialogue with the knowledge built from other latitudes and historical moments.

Critical approaches aimed at transformation involve investigative processes that are oriented both at the level of the Latin American and Caribbean context, and at the level of the relations of subordination of children and young people to adults from a generational perspective.

In this sense, the GT seeks to positively impact the improvement and understanding of the realities experienced by children and young people in Latin America and the Caribbean, through comparative analysis of contexts; the development of participatory research processes; and the construction of links and direct dialogues with public policies and with actors linked to the state and social management of these social groups in different countries of the region.
