Horizontality. Towards a critique of methodology
To propose a book today on horizontality as a methodological perspective for working in social sciences and humanities implies seeing with the spatial metaphor that the word invokes: between a background of vision at the same level for everyone and a predilection for the future, for an objective that is crossed out beforehand by its own sign: the horizon is always further away.
The chapters in this work stem from the need to level the playing field in the dialogue between researchers and those being researched. They propose producing knowledge from a horizontal perspective, incorporating both scientific and non-academic voices, to foster dialogue between different forms of knowledge using a method adaptable to the Latin American context and with a distinct vision. The aim is not to provide technical formulas that objectify social research. Rather, it seeks to democratize research itself, highlighting its potential, its complexities, and its uncertainties, while simultaneously exploring responses to the urgent political and academic needs of our current context.
