Tribute to Carlos Rodrigues Brandão, collaborator and friend of the Participatory Processes and Methodologies Working Group

At the age of 83, Carlos Rodrigues Brandão, an active collaborator of our Working Group, passed away in Brazil. Carlos was one of the leading Latin American and global figures in participatory research and popular education. A contemporary of Paulo Freire and Orlando Fals Borda, he was one of the great exponents of that era who contributed from local communities and shaped alternatives to hegemonic forms of knowledge. He leaves us a fundamental legacy for the Social Sciences committed to change and social justice, with substantive research on topics such as culture, popular education, religion and education, among others.

In our Working Group, he made various contributions, actively participating in face-to-face and virtual meetings, which he attended with a cheerful smile, generously making great contributions to our debates and always providing us with his great level of human warmth.

We have lost one of the greats, but his work will transcend generations. From GT, we express our deepest condolences and extend our sympathies to his family and friends.
