Farewell, Beatriz Schmukler

 Farewell, Beatriz Schmukler

Today our dear, beloved feminist sociologist Beatriz Schmukler passed away; she accompanied the CLACSO Working Group on emancipatory practices, common goods and decolonial alter-global methodologies from its initial formation.

Today, Beatriz's wings have soared, and her departure leaves a void in this little corner of the world. However, she lives on in those other worlds where we connect and intertwine with one another through memory.

Dear friend, sister, teacher Beatriz, we don't want to say goodbye. We want to say until we meet again; until every moment we gather around your legacy and put your feminist pedagogy into practice. We say to you, and we repeat to ourselves: Until we remember you every day. Until every training session where we continue to be moved. Until every workshop where we continue to be inspired and mobilized. Your pedagogy has transcended borders. Your legacy is recreated in our practices when we put into action the methodologies you taught us; those that shift attitudes and respect desires in every relationship we form.

You were always an enthusiastic activist for transformative decolonizing practices, our teacher; a beacon of our emotions, spirituality, and embodiment. An intellectual reference point in the methodological and epistemic framework of family and community democratization since the 1980s, following the return of democratic systems in Our Latin America.

Our beloved Beatriz, you are no longer physically with us, but your memory will always remain. You will be a presence in your absence, always with us. Your thoughts, your emotions, your love, your generosity, your wisdom will be the source of inspiration, the strength, the driving force that will always be present in the discussions and debates on the path toward building new decolonial epistemological horizons and a knowledge system with gender equity and a diversity of voices.
