Towards an Agroecological Transformation
In order to contribute to the exchange of knowledge, the co-organizers of the Community of Practice for Family Farming and Agroecology in Latin America and the Caribbean – the FAO Agroecology Knowledge Centre (CCA), the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), the FAO Family Farming Knowledge Platform (PCAF), the Public Policies and Rural Development Network in Latin America (Red PP-AL), the Innovation and Impact Network, the Network of Localized Agri-food Systems (Red SIAL Brasil), and the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA) – have proposed to carry out a Capacity Building Program, through an open, practical dialogue oriented to the specific needs of small-scale and agroecologically based family farmers, bringing knowledge and successful experiences that contribute to the debate on some challenges: agroecological transformation of production, markets and consumption, and public policies.
The first discussion will be on Wednesday, July 28th.The event featured the participation of Roxana Villegas, a Bolivian Indigenous producer and fellow of the CLACSO and McKnight Foundation's "Research and Training Program in Andean Agroecological Systems"; Zoraida Calle, a researcher with the CIPAV Foundation and the ELTI Colombia Program at Yale University; Leidy Casimiro, PhD in agroecology, coordinator of international projects such as BIOMAS Cuba and Bioenergy at the Indio Hatuey Experimental Station, member of the SOCLA Board of Directors and the National Group of Permaculture Facilitators in Cuba, and a member of the Slow Food International Movement; and Laeticia Jalil, a sociologist, feminist, professor, coordinator of the JUREMA Nucleus and the Women's Working Group of the National Agroecology Articulation (ANA) – Brazil. The event was moderated by Karina Bidaseca, Coordinator of the Tricontinental South-South Program and the Andean Agroecological Systems Research Program.
