Declaration in support of the University Institute for Development and Cooperation of the Complutense University of Madrid (IUDC-UCM)

The University Institute for Development and Cooperation of the Complutense University of Madrid (IUDC-UCM)¹ is an institution associated with the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) and is a member of the Working Group “South-South Cooperation and Development Policies”.

Since December 2018, the IUDC-UCM, along with 15 other research centers of the UCM, has been subject to a suppression procedure by the Rectorate.

With this suppression procedure, the Rectorate of the UCM intends to dispense with the activity of the first research and training center in development and international cooperation in the Spanish State.

The IUDC-UCM boasts a 30-year track record, during which it has trained over 3.000 professionals with a critical spirit and transformative awareness, representing more than 50 nationalities, many of them from Latin America and the Caribbean. It also conducts extensive research and coordinates leading publications in the field.

In addition to the corresponding institutional actions, the IUDC-UCM has initiated a process of collecting signatures in order to reverse the suppression process to which it is being subjected.

We ask the social and academic base of CLACSO for their support and consideration in these difficult times.
