Sexual activism and citizenship: interdisciplinary dialogues

El CLACSO Working Group on Sexual Activisms and Citizenships: Interdisciplinary Dialogues It aims to build a space for interdisciplinary and intergenerational academic dialogue in/from the Global South, to produce situated and useful scientific knowledge that contributes to the formation of social movements and that influences the design of public policies focused on sexual and gender dissidence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Thus, this Working Group seeks to politicize knowledge production in order to confront the neoconservative actors, projects and discourses that seek to halt progress and deny the LGBTIQA+ rights obtained in recent decades in the region.
The Working Group begins by recognizing sexual citizenships as subjects of rights and participants in the formation of Latin American and Caribbean societies. Thus, by articulating sexual citizenships, it is necessary to acknowledge their historical, social, political, and cultural contributions in our countries, while simultaneously inviting a rethinking of multiple concepts and contexts standardized by cisheteronormativity.
Therefore, this Working Group is committed to horizontal collaboration between academia, civil society, and decision-makers to build a common front that contributes to the creation of more just and equitable societies in the region.
