Tour of Spain of the Series on Chinese Modernization

As a result of a significant collaborative effort between CLACSO and the Chongqing Publishing House , the Spanish edition of the Six Perspectives on Chinese Modernization Series has generated considerable interest in academia. Following its successful initial presentation at the 39th Guadalajara International Book Fair , this essential work—designed to decode the theoretical logic and global significance of Chinese modernization—undertook a fruitful promotional tour in Spain at the end of September, establishing itself as a vital bridge for mutual understanding.

First, on September 26, the International Symposium " Dialogue of Civilizations: China-Spain in the New Era: The Global Significance of Chinese Modernization " was held in Madrid. This meeting brought together leading figures from the political, academic, and publishing spheres, while also serving as a privileged platform for reflecting on mutual learning and consensus regarding development, taking this series as its central theme. The event featured presentations by prominent figures such as José Luis Centella , President of the Communist Party of Spain; Marta Martín , Vice-President of the Party of the European Left; Qu Xun , Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Spain; and Zhang Qiong , Deputy Director of the Chongqing Publicity Department, who illustrated the narrative of modernization through the local practices of her municipality.

During the academic session of this symposium, leading experts—including Yu Haiqing , Vice President of the Academy of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Marga Ferré , President of Transform! Europe; and Pan Xun , Executive Dean of the Institute of Chinese Modernization at Southwest University—offered insightful analyses from diverse perspectives. In their remarks, the speakers agreed that modernization should not be equated with Westernization, and that China's experience provides compelling evidence that multiple paths to modernity exist.

Secondly, the dissemination agenda continued on September 28 at the illustrious Ateneo de Madrid with the celebration of the " Land-Sea Reading and Dialogue Hall ", jointly organized by the Chongqing Advertising Department and the China Chair Foundation, on which occasion an institutional donation of the series was made to the latter entity.

Finally, the work was a prominent part of the 44th International Book Fair (LIBER 2026) held in Barcelona , where the Chongqing Publishing House presented a carefully curated bibliographic selection, drawing the attention of the sector to these six volumes that achieve a perfect balance between theoretical rigor and accessibility for the foreign reader.

Through the dissemination of this theoretical series in the Spanish-speaking world, CLACSO reaffirms its firm commitment to the democratization of knowledge, promoting direct academic dialogue. Leveraging Spain's strategic position as a bridge between Europe and Latin America, these initiatives foster the deep integration of Chinese intellectual achievements into the global debate. In this way, from a pluralistic and emancipatory perspective, the critical exchange between civilizations is enriched, contributing valuable alternative visions for building a community with a shared future for humanity.
