María Camila Ospina Alvarado Foundation in Manizales
On Friday, May 29, in Manizales, Colombia, the official presentation of the CAMI Foundation, an initiative whose purpose is to transform thought and life into collective action María Camila Ospina Alvarado.
Professor and researcher of the Doctorate in Social Sciences, Childhood and Youth and in the Master's in Education and Human Development of the Cinde – University of Manizales alliance, and who was coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group “Childhoods and Youths” in addition to author of publications and teacher in various training proposals of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, passed away on November 20, 2024.
The event will take place in the María Camila Ospina Alvarado auditorium, third floor of the Historic Building of the University of Manizales, starting at 5:00 p.m. Colombia time (UTC-5).
María Camila Ospina Alvarado's legacy includes her work as a researcher, committed to transforming how childhood is understood. "Her work highlighted that girls and boys are not only subjects of protection, but also actors with a voice and agency in building peace," states the CAMI Foundation.
“From a relational perspective, she insisted that peace is built in everyday life, in relationships, and in the recognition of the other,” they emphasize regarding her career. They add: “Her work includes training programs, knowledge generation, support for communities in conflict contexts, and the creation of alliances to broaden her impact.”
“In a country marked by profound inequalities, this initiative invites us to rethink public policy: to move from intervening in communities to recognizing their capacity for agency; from talking about peace to building it in practice,” adds the CAMI Foundation, concluding that it is, above all, a way to keep alive a conviction: that social transformation is possible when we listen, engage in dialogue, and build together. The Foundation is a non-profit entity created in February 2026, focused on education, research and peacebuilding from childhood, which has already started its program to support advanced training.
