Borders: Mobilities, Identities and Trade

The CLACSO Working Group on Borders: Mobilities, Identities and Trade aims to systematize and analyze academic production on border studies in three analytical axes:

• cross-border mobility
• the production and reconfiguration of identities
• the commercial flow of goods across borders

Furthermore, we are interested in creating training, dissemination, and outreach channels related to these three areas. We will be particularly focused on strengthening postgraduate programs in Bolivia.

We believe that progress in Latin America regarding border studies and their various dimensions of analysis, such as identity, regional, and ethnic-racial borders, among others, has been uneven. In Mexico, in particular, we have found a wealth of theoretical and methodological approaches to borders, and this will be our primary point of reference when comparing the work done in other South American countries.

We think and reflect on ourselves from Bolivia, initially, and then from the movement of people and goods to and through other South American countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Paraguay.
