Facing the threat of war from the United States in the Caribbean

The CLACSO Steering Committee expresses its deep concern and warns of the danger looming over the region following the escalation of US interventionist actions against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and all of Latin America and the Caribbean. This episode of aggression, with threats to sovereign maritime and airspace, and the potential for a land incursion, generates a dangerous escalation of conflict with unpredictable consequences, violating fundamental principles of international law and the sovereignty and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.

Under the pseudo banner of the “war on drugs”, a narrative has been constructed that seeks to legitimize interventions and coercive measures with the aim of seizing the energy resources and trade routes that Venezuela and the peoples of the region possess.

For this reason, CLACSO calls for the activation of international mechanisms, respect for international law and the solidarity of peoples to guarantee the end of this dangerous threat of war and invasion.
