Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation
At the Dr. José María Luis Mora Research Institute in Mexico City, on November 26 and 27, the “Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation” was held, a joint initiative of CLACSO and Conacyt that set up the debate about the evaluation processes of scientific work and was the framework to generate proposals from Latin America, in dialogue with the trends and best practices of other regions of the world.
Both the Opening and Closing of the Forum were led by Diana Guillén Rodríguez (Instituto Mora), María Elena Álvarez-Buylla Roces (Conacyt), and the Executive Secretary of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány (CLACSO), who called for the development of “a concrete alternative, not only from Latin America and the Caribbean, but one that we intend to be an enclave of the Global South. And for this reason, we are coordinating with our colleagues from the Scientific Councils of Social Sciences in Africa, the Middle East, and China.”
Roundtables, panels and committee work were held to discuss global challenges and regional proposals for a comprehensive evaluation of scientific activity; national experiences of scientific evaluation: dialogues with representatives of national bodies and institutional references in science and technology; an open space to dialogue with representatives of public policies in science and technology from Latin America and the Caribbean, both from bodies and institutional references, to share strategies on new evaluation criteria.
