Academic program
The Doctoral Program in History at the National University of Colombia was created by CSU Agreement 066 of 1995, and its opening at the Medellín campus was approved by Agreement 032 of 1999. Its purpose is to train independent researchers in the field of history; to consciously and systematically deepen the link between Colombian and international historiography by establishing communication channels with foreign historiographical schools and international research institutions; and to foster the development of highly qualified historical research. In recognition of the program's achievements, it was awarded the Ibero-American University Association of Postgraduate Studies (AUIP) Prize in 2016, at its 8th edition, and in 2015 it received High Quality Accreditation for eight (8) years from the Colombian Ministry of National Education.
Objectives
• To promote the development of highly qualified historical research in the country and contribute to the consolidation of the academic community of historians.
• To train suitable researchers in the field of History, with solid theoretical, methodological and interdisciplinary skills.
• To promote the production of research that links Colombian historiography with international historiography.
• To deepen and update knowledge of history and the social and human sciences, to be used in teaching-learning processes, in the field of cultural, documentary and heritage management, as well as in social projects, territorial management and attention to local populations.

A Doctor of History will be able to propose, direct, and conduct research independently, produce original knowledge, and participate in building academic communities in the field of History. Graduates should be capable of guiding and training highly qualified historians in historical research.
• English. Accredited through one of the following options: i) certificate for a minimum level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; ii) graduation from an undergraduate program at the National University of Colombia in accordance with current regulations. For graduates of the National University of Colombia, the foreign language requirement – English – is considered fulfilled since it is a graduation requirement; iii) achieving the proficiency level required by the University through the test administered by the National Admissions Office. Foreign language certifications are valid for two years from the date of issue.
• Research proposal including title, presentation of the topic and research question, justification, state of the art, objectives, theoretical framework, hypothesis, table of contents, timeline, sources, and bibliography. Maximum length of ten pages. Proposals must be linked to the Faculty's research groups and their areas of work.
• Interview.
