Academic program

The academic program comprises 94 credits and is designed to be completed over nine semesters, with full-time dedication. A central principle behind the structure of the doctoral program in education is its flexibility. The CIFE, in collaboration with other graduate programs at the University, offers disciplinary and interdisciplinary elective seminars that allow doctoral students to pursue training aligned with their academic interests and enrich their research perspective. Students can choose seminars and courses from a wide range of disciplines and, guided by their advisor, plan a flexible, personalized learning path that suits their interests and training needs. Furthermore, during the doctoral dissertation preparation phase, students have the opportunity to choose from various options (tutorial courses, master's or doctoral level courses, the production of scientific work, etc.) to fulfill the requirements of this training phase.

OBJECTIVES:

The purposes of the doctoral program in education are as follows:

• To develop and consolidate research in the field of education, emphasizing CIFE's areas of strength. The aim is to contribute to the overall development of educational research, both nationally and internationally.

• To improve the quality of teaching and learning processes at all educational levels in the country, as well as the quality of decision-making at different levels (national, local, school, etc.) within the field of education. Research should contribute, through its findings, to improving education in the country, both in teaching and learning processes and in institutional decision-making and the development of public education policy. CIFE achieves this by promoting disciplinary and interdisciplinary educational processes based on research and characterized by their participatory, reflective, and critical nature.

• To consolidate an academic career in the field of education. The importance of education for the country and its culture suggests that it should be possible to pursue an academic career in this field. A doctorate in education provides the appropriate studies to develop in this direction.

• To promote debate and discussion about different academic proposals in the field of education. With CIFE as a strong research center and a solid relationship with the external environment, we can contribute to the development of a public sphere of active and critical debate in the field of education.

A graduate of the doctoral program in education should be considered an expert and leader in various fields. Therefore, the graduate will be able to:

• Leading innovation processes in education,
• To evaluate, support, promote, and guide education policies, both at the local and national levels,
• To form and lead research groups in education, and
• To influence curriculum development in faculties of education

It is the responsibility of the Doctoral Committee in Education to admit students to the program.

Admission to the Doctoral Program in Education is semester-based. No specific undergraduate degree is required for admission. A Master's degree is also not required. Admitted students with a Master's degree may request a course equivalency evaluation from the Doctoral Committee, in accordance with current university regulations.

The Doctoral Committee will require the requirements established in the General Regulations for Doctoral Students, to which the following must be added:

1. A written essay explaining your interest in the program, your previous career path, the topics you would be interested in researching within the CIFE's research lines, and, optionally, indicating the professor with whom you would like to work.

2. Research proposal related to the research lines of the groups supporting the doctoral program. The proposal should be between 2 and 5 pages long and must include the title, topic, justification, problem statement, objectives, and references.

3. Two letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your academic performance.
