Academic program
The Doctoral Program in Public Policy and Social Transformation aims to train highly qualified social science researchers specializing in public policy. For this reason, special emphasis will be placed on research methodology and techniques. The program also seeks to consolidate a diversity of approaches and perspectives, and a balance between basic and applied research, thereby fostering a rich intellectual environment—a necessary condition for high-quality doctoral research.
As research professionals, the aim of this doctoral program is for students to be able to apply their knowledge and skills to the rigorous and evidence-based analysis of the social, political, and economic problems of the complex societies that characterize the globalized environment in which we live. This must be the foundation for presenting high-quality research as a useful tool not only for continuously improving our understanding of reality itself, but also for shaping and informing interventions in this reality.

Those who:
• Have completed an official university Master's degree in research in a field considered related.
• If you do not have a Master's degree, you must have obtained Research Proficiency (RD 185/1985) or the Diploma of Advanced Studies (RD 778/1998).
In all cases, it will be necessary to prove that:
• The degree has been awarded by a Spanish or foreign university.
• The completed master's degree must have been of a minimum of 60 credits, of which 15 credits must be research credits, provided that the applicant has completed 300 credits across all their undergraduate and postgraduate university studies. If the applicant cannot demonstrate having completed a minimum of 15 ECTS credits of introductory research, they must enroll in and pass the research module of the master's program indicated as a prerequisite. In this case, admission to the doctoral program will be conditional upon successful completion of this coursework.
In addition to the application form, curriculum vitae and academic transcript that proves the prior studies necessary to access the third cycle, candidates will have to provide:
• A preliminary doctoral research proposal, which will include: general approach, theoretical framework, objectives, justification of its relevance and pertinence, and estimation of its time program.
• Passing a personal interview with the Program Coordinator or, alternatively, with one of the members of the Commission.
• A personal letter, addressed to those responsible for the Doctoral Studies in Government and Public Policy, explaining the reasons that led to choosing these Studies and indicating the links of your research and/or research proposal with the lines of the Studies and of the IGOP itself.
• For students with no prior connection to IGOP: two letters of support from two professors familiar with the candidate's career and work, who can therefore offer an assessment of their potential to undertake doctoral research. These letters must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the author's signature on the back.
