Academic program

This program promotes dialogue between the social sciences and the humanities to underline the importance of culture in structuring the social world, a perspective that allows us to understand the meanings of different cultural phenomena in terms of valuing their contribution to human and social development.

Foundation:

Cultural Studies involves building bridges between the social sciences and the humanities. It aims to identify the unresolved tensions within a community and to highlight their potential to inspire action plans designed to empower individuals and communities.

Cultural Studies examines society and individuals, understanding them as being shaped by various types of conflict. It begins by understanding human subjectivity itself as a space of encounter between the social and the individual; an encounter that simultaneously involves tension and openness.

In the current context of fragmented knowledge, Cultural Studies seeks to uncover the connections between the economic, the cultural, and the political, and analyzes how these dimensions are articulated in cultural products and practices. Therefore, the key themes of Cultural Studies include everyday life, the media, collective sensibilities, the relationships between social worlds, family and gender, sports, art, literature, and philosophy understood as a hermeneutics of social and individual reality.

In conclusion, Cultural Studies provides students with tools that allow for a fruitful approach to the cultural diversity of today's world.

Graduates of the Master's Program in Cultural Studies will be able to dedicate themselves to academic reflection and agency in the field of culture. Their training, through its sensitivity to difference and analytical capacity, enables them to communicate and propose solutions. Ultimately, the skills and knowledge provided by this master's program allow them to work in various fields: in academic work, artistic production, public policy formulation and management, journalism, and research in general.
