Academic program
General objective of the postgraduate program:
- To train professionals and researchers capable of generating and contributing new scientific knowledge in the field of Sociology, within a perspective based on the recognition of pluralism, rational discussion, and essential peer communication, as well as on the indispensable theoretical and methodological foundation to guarantee rigor in knowledge production. This training process also aims to influence the diagnosis and resolution of social problems at various scales, projecting this perspective onto different areas of professional practice.
- To deepen students' professional development and initiate their training in high-level research activities through the updating of their theoretical, methodological, and empirical knowledge of the discipline. The aim is for students to acquire specialized knowledge in various areas of Sociology, enabling them to perform effectively in different professional fields and in research.
Specific objectives:
The student should be able to:
- Identify the major social problems that constitute the object of reflection of sociological theory.
- To acquire the knowledge and use the theoretical and methodological tools that allow you to address and construct a particular study problem
- To manage a sociological perspective that allows its connection with society in the different areas of professional activity.
- Acquire the necessary skills to:
- Collect and analyze direct information.
- To design, implement and evaluate public policies.
- Design, coordinate and evaluate social, cultural and community development promotion activities in public and private organizations.

Graduates with a PhD in Sociology from the UAM-Azcapotzalco program could work in:
• Government agencies and institutions, both as officials in charge of the operation of areas related to the specialization in which they were trained, or as advisors and researchers specialized in the field.
• Universities and centers of upper secondary and higher education or scientific research, whether as teachers or researchers.
• International organizations in research departments, in advisory and consultancy work, expert analysis, policy design, program evaluation, etc.
• Consulting services for social, civil and political organizations, in matters of disciplinary analysis and support in statistical management, data systematization, application of surveys, etc.
• Government agencies and institutions, both as officials in charge of the operation of areas related to the specialization in which they were trained, or as advisors and researchers specialized in the field.
• Universities and centers of upper secondary and higher education or scientific research, whether as teachers or researchers.
• International organizations in research departments, in advisory and consultancy work, expert analysis, policy design, program evaluation, etc.
• Consulting services for social, civil and political organizations, in matters of disciplinary analysis and support in statistical management, data systematization, application of surveys, etc.
1. Candidates who have completed the Level I Study Plan (Master's in Sociology UAM-A) are required to submit the research protocol. Candidates of the Master's in Metropolitan Planning and Policies, in addition to the above requirement, must present the corresponding degree or reliably demonstrate that they have fully completed the study plan.
2. Candidates from other Master's programs in Sociology or related disciplines must submit:
• Master's degree, or conclusive proof of having fully completed the respective curriculum. (original and 3 copies)
Birth Certificate (original and 3 copies)
Two passport-sized photographs (color or black and white)
• Complete Master's degree certificate (original and 3 copies)
• Curriculum vitae.
• Research protocol.
• Relevant publications.
• Letter of application explaining the reasons why you wish to enter the doctoral program.
• Two academic letters of recommendation.
• Have passed the evaluation carried out by the Committee of the Master's and Doctorate in Sociology, which includes: written exam, review of the documentation submitted and personal interview.
• Demonstrate Level "A" (reading and writing comprehension) in one of the languages offered by the Foreign Languages Coordination and authorized by the Master's and Doctoral Committee
in Sociology. In the case of students whose native language is not Spanish, they must demonstrate proficiency in that language to the aforementioned coordinator.
3. Candidates with a bachelor's degree or who can demonstrate full completion of the curriculum at that level and who possess sufficient knowledge and extensive research experience, as determined by the Master's and Doctoral Committee in Sociology, may be accepted. They must also submit:
• Full Bachelor's degree certificate or diploma (original and 3 copies)
Birth Certificate (original and 3 copies)
• Curriculum vitae.
• Research protocol.
• Relevant publications.
• Letter of application explaining the reasons why you wish to enter the doctoral program.
• Two academic letters of recommendation.
