Academic program

This career stems from the one-year postgraduate program "Constructivism and Education", which has been taught at FLACSO since 1996, thanks to the agreement with the Autonomous University of Madrid, where professors from both institutions have participated, thanks to the help of the ICI and the European Union (Alfa Project).
Over the past few years, our courses have had around one hundred students, many of whom have expressed interest in pursuing further studies in these areas. This has been one of the reasons that has motivated us to undertake this project.
On the other hand, throughout our experience of the last four years in different Argentine institutions we have been able to verify the need and interest in the topics we propose on the part of numerous researchers and professionals.
Currently, there is a reconceptualization of learning and teaching processes throughout the international sphere, according to which it is necessary to produce a substantial improvement in the understanding of learners, both in the formal and informal spheres.
The drastic changes in the formats and uses of information, the development of new technologies, the processes of educational transformation, and the rapid changes in job training are factors, among others, that make it necessary to develop new academic and professional instruments for the study of learning.
In this regard, cognitive research has made significant progress in recent decades. These advances are related, among other things, to the detailed study of attention, memory, language, and thought in human beings—as well as their motivation, emotion, and social interaction—and the implications all of this has for understanding learning and teaching processes.
In fact, in recent years a great deal of research has been conducted on the relationship between and contributions of cognitive and learning processes to specific teaching methodologies. Ultimately, this master's program aims to establish itself as a useful tool for training individuals interested in developing research, preferably applied research, and/or improving their professional practice. These individuals may come from the school sector (supervisors, educational advisors, principals, educational psychologists), educational administration (especially those involved in curriculum development), corporate training (training managers), as well as from fields where learning takes place in more informal contexts (museums and cultural activities in general) and other contexts where some type of psychoeducational intervention occurs.
On the other hand, given that cognitive psychology in general and the cognitive approach to learning in particular are relatively new fields in Argentina, we believe that this master's program can contribute to their academic development.
Finally, as this proposal is positioned as a joint degree with a European university, it will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening international contacts and developments in this field.
This Master's degree is designed to meet the demands and goals of both university and tertiary graduates (of a minimum duration of 4 years) in the areas of psychology, education, psychopedagogy and related careers, as well as those professionals interested in the psychoeducational area, graduates not necessarily from careers linked to psychology.
A basic knowledge of the English language is a requirement for admission to this Master's program.
