Academic program

The objective of the Master's Program in Social Anthropology at CIESAS-Mexico City is to train specialists committed to the social relevance of their profession; capable of carrying out research and teaching activities in the public, private or civil society sectors; and with skills to pursue doctoral studies.

These specialists are intended to:
have tools for critical reflection on diverse theoretical and methodological approaches to anthropology;
recognize the production of data through fieldwork and archiving as a central element of their training, and have the tools for its systematization and analysis; and
develop skills to integrate into multidisciplinary research teams, willing to understand and address national and regional problems.
Bachelor's degree completed in Anthropology or related disciplines, minimum average of 8 (eight).
Experience in preparing research products: undergraduate theses or texts resulting from personal research.
A vocation for research.
Willingness to learn through practice, systematization and analysis of fieldwork and/or archive work.
Faculty for the handling of scientific theories and methodologies; specific research problems and application of results.
Willingness to train in the research areas of the specialization line to which they are assigned.
Skills in understanding, analyzing, arguing, and writing academic texts.
Reading and understanding texts in English.
Commitment and full-time availability.
Academic and professional ethics; respect for diversity and social commitment.

Application for admission: Must be completed online, printed, signed and scanned in PDF format.
Title of the immediately preceding degree and/or examination record.
Certificate of studies with a minimum average of 8 (eight) or equivalent.
Certificate of reading and comprehension of texts in English. NOTE: In the case of foreign applicants whose native language is not Spanish, proof of proficiency in this language must be provided by means of a certificate issued by an accredited institution.
Statement of purpose letter in CIESAS format, specifying the area of ​​specialization you wish to enter.
Letter of commitment to full-time dedication to Master's studies (free format).
Two academic letters of recommendation in CIESAS format. The person recommending the application must send the letter from an institutional email account to [email protected]Once received, you will receive a confirmation email. The attached file must be named with the applicant's last name.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) with: a) supporting documentation (integrated and numbered); b) description of academic and work experience.
Best written works of personal authorship (thesis, specialized articles or books).
Research proposal in accordance with the selected specialization area and the guide suggested by the program.
Birth certificate.
Official photo ID (voter ID, professional license, or passport). Foreign applicants must present a valid passport.
Unique Population Registry Code (CURP). Foreign applicants without a CURP must obtain one in Mexico if they are accepted.
Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC). Foreign applicants without an RFC must obtain one in Mexico if accepted.
Proof of address.

Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed. Admitted applicants must submit a printed copy of the required documentation and present the original official documents for verification (official identification, birth certificate, degree, and academic transcript).

Foreign applicants admitted must submit their original documents duly apostilled from their country of origin or the country where they obtained the document in question.
