Academic program
The Doctoral Program in Social Sciences at FLACSO Mexico boasts an internationally renowned faculty. The program is backed by FLACSO Mexico's 49 years of experience in graduate studies and FLACSO's 68-year history in Latin America, making it an internationally recognized regional research and teaching institution. Its curriculum provides an excellent education grounded in cutting-edge social science knowledge, structured around three fundamental pillars: a common core, methodological and research components, and disciplinary components (sociology, political science, and public policy). Throughout the program, relevant discussions on Latin American issues and challenges are emphasized.

The PhD in Social Sciences offers three specializations: sociology, political science, and public policy. The curriculum is designed to allow students to complete their dissertation during the three years of the program.

• Have a master's degree by July 2026 at the latest.
• Submit academic transcript and proof of overall GPA for undergraduate and graduate degrees (minimum 8.0 on a scale of 0 to 10 or its equivalent). Applicants from abroad should review the official equivalency scale at https://www.flacso.edu.mx/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tabla-equivalencias.jpg.
• Fill out and submit the registration application with all the required information and documents, within the deadline set on the application platform.
• Dedicate yourself full-time to your studies. ⋆ Attend at least eighty percent of the classes.
• Obtain the minimum average required by the institution that awarded the scholarship.
• Demonstrate comprehension of English texts before graduation.
A significant portion of the bibliography for all graduate programs is only available in English. FLACSO Mexico offers optional (external) English courses to prepare students to pass this exam. Application platform.
• Have the required availability to dedicate oneself full-time to pursuing the Doctorate during the three years that this study program lasts.
• Submit and pass the CENEVAL (EXANI III) and knowledge exams on the scheduled date, and meet the other selection criteria.
• Present a research project belonging to the research lines of FLACSO Mexico
