The rise of interdisciplinary studies throughout the 20th century, particularly in the case of postcolonial/decolonial studies, has produced a labyrinthine multiplicity of designations. This diversity stems from theoretical and political differences, but also from lineages, rivalries, and loyalties. The differences between (and within) postcolonial and decolonial studies involve academic demarcations but also an opposition to reductionism, given that the problems and impacts of colonialism in recent centuries have been heterogeneous and multifaceted.
The Epistemologies of the South collection was conceived in a format of small and agile books, which rather than forming a large edifice of knowledge accessible to only a few, are presented as small crafts to be discovered and as powerful compasses to cross the abyssal line that separates metropolitan forms of sociability from colonial experiences.
